10 Ways to Maintain the Environment

Below are 10 tips on maintaining our environment:
1. Replace the light bulb with CFL
Many of us know that compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) are energy-saving lamps that are older than ordinary light bulbs, also require just about a quarter of the energy that ordinary light bulbs need to produce the same bright light.
Some CFL products often include an ENERGY STAR label which means it has been tested for quality and efficiency. Indeed, products that have this label are usually more expensive than products that do not have it. But make no mistake, the electrical equipment that we buy the price is not specified only from the purchase price, but also the maintenance price that at least consists of the cost of electricity usage for the equipment. So even if the labeled product labeled ENERGY STAR is more expensive, it actually saves us long-term usage costs because the power used by ENERGY STAR labeled products is much smaller and the lifespan is long.
Not only that, ordinary light bulbs that use glowing wires or metals as light sources also produce carbon dioxide (CO2) during operation.
Then to save electricity usage, the simple thing we can do is to turn off the lights that are not needed, or reduce the lighting of the lights when sunlight can enter the room and can adequately illuminate the room.
2. Change the way you drive or use another vehicle
The bad news that a car can produce carbon dioxide is at least as much as the inhabitants of your home and excess carbon dioxide is one of the causes of global warming. The good news is that we can anticipate this in many ways.
The first way is to use a vehicle that uses gas fuel. Vehicles with gas fuel are safer for the environment, but for now it is more expensive than vehicles with fuel oil.
The second way is to reduce driving. This is quite difficult to do. Because riders usually have a tendency to drive further next year. This can be anticipated by telecommuting (working from home using a computer connected to the computer where you work) or by using public transport. These two things are quite difficult to do in Indonesia, because these two facilities are still inadequate.
The third way is to do a tune-up on your vehicle. Believe it or not, tune-ups can increase the fuel efficiency of your vehicle by half.
The fourth way is not speeding. Speeding is fast, but the fuel used is also more. As a result carbon dioxide is also produced more.
3. Set the room temperature
One of the use of large electrical energy is for air conditioning equipment (Air Conditioner / AC). Replacement of the old AC can be one alternative, because the old air conditioner has lower efficiency up to one third of the efficiency of new type air conditioner. Then do not forget to clean the ventiation and filter from the AC, because dirty filters and vents can reduce AC efficiency dramatically.
The next way is to set the appropriate temperature, not too cold. Because the temperature setting is too cold requires more electrical energy. Temperature settings can be done by installing a programmable thermostat.
4. Defeat your refrigerator
Believe it or not the refrigerator can be the biggest energy glutton in your home if operated incorrectly. To prevent this from happening, there are several things you can do.
Do not operate refrigerators near heat sources, or place them under the sun. Do not forget to clean the refrigerator condenser to increase the efficiency of the refrigerator. Do not forget to close the refrigerator door. Do not set the temperature of the refrigerator too cold, just enough. Then if there is "Energy Saver" button, do not forget to activate. But if your refrigerator is old, maybe you can consider replacing the refrigerator with a new refrigerator, because it can increase the efficiency of the refrigerator up to 50%.
5. Reduce the use of water heaters
The water heater is one of the largest users of electrical energy. To use the water heater efficiently do the following. Do not turn on the water heater at all times, turn on only when needed, use the timer if necessary. Equip hot water pipe with insulator to keep water hot during deep pipe.
6. Arrange plants
Planting lots of trees is only good for the short term because too many trees also produce carbon dioxide. But there are other reasons that can be used, for example to reduce the cost of cooling by closing the cooling device or a certain room from direct sunlight.
For the selection of plants, you should use only a little water. Choose a hard plant. If using plants that need lots of water, place them in clusters to conserve water usage and regulate moisture around the plant.
7. Investment for green energy
One day later the oil mines can run out. Then how the solution for a new energy source. To date considerable resources worth considering are the sources of nuclear energy and gas. The source of nuclear energy produces radioactive which has negative effects for the long term. While gas energy can indeed be renewed, but the energy produced is relatively small. So maybe the gas energy source can be used as a transition before the discovery of a new, better source of energy. So why do not we invest in this new energy discovery.
8. Organic thinking
Pesticides used in plantations are used to kill plant pests, but dead not only pests, but also micro oranisme on the ground that serves to bind carbon elements to fertilize the soil. So once the micro organism dies, the carbon is released into the air as carbon dioxide, and the soil becomes an additional fertilizer for fertilizer. So it's better not to use chemical pesticides to get rid of pests, maybe think of using other ways to get rid of pests for example by using a predator of the pest.
9. Using recycled goods
Producing recyclables is easier than producing new items. So if we use recycled goods, we can increase trade as well as minimize energy use. Not only that, recycled goods are usually also cheaper than new goods, can be up to one-third.
10. So a minimalist
This is not easy. As the consumer pattern becomes more popular, it is hard for us to make savings. But keep in mind, the more goods we buy, the more energy that is used to make the goods. So to save energy, we better save. Better to be creative in work, games, and entertainment, because to be able to do it all does not have to use new things, old things can be used again in a creative way.
